Apple’s decision to stick with the same form factor for its latest iPhone received mixed reactions from the public when it was announced. There were some who were expecting a larger display and a new look, but were disappointed. While others felt the bump in specs on the inside was enough to keep Apple in step with its competitors in the smart phone arena.

It’s not the first time Apple stuck with the same design on its smart phones; they did as much with the iPhone 3GS, the successor of the iPhone 3G. But are there enough merits for the new version, or should we keep the old?

One slight change in the design would be the placement of the buttons on the left spine. As seen in this picture comparison, the iPhone 4S’ mute button and the volume keys are raised just a little bit compared to the older model (GSM variant). It is quite a minute difference. However, protective cases that have these precise button openings for the iPhone 4 may not necessarily fit the newer version. For CDMA variants, some users have noted that their version of iPhone 4 cases will also likely fit the 4S.

While some users have shown that Siri runs just fine on an iPhone 4, connecting to Apple’s servers have proven to be a futile attempt as it only accepts commands from the UID of an iPhone 4S handset.

When Apple demoed the application, the company noted that it is still in beta and currently only supports English, (US, UK, Australian) German, and French. Those outside the US may not be able to fully utilize its function as well, but Apple is working on allowing more users to experience Siri’s full potential.

Some of the cool things Siri can do is type messages as the user dictates it then send it to the recipient, set an alarm, place a reminder, and even do some light researching for you. One user even managed to let Siri start a car, although the setup was pretty complicated.

Despite all its capabilities, it still remains to be seen whether Siri will become a game changer: it is, after all, still in beta, the video below shows Siri in action.

While most of it’s physical appearances may not have changed, Apple made sure that the iPhone 4S got souped up under the hood.
First on the list would be the camera – which went from 5 megapixels on the iPhone 4 to 8 megapixels, a move that would bring it on par with its competitors. The new 1080p video resolution is also a welcome development. Aside from increasing the photo and video resolution, the 4S uses a 5 element lens that should result in sharper images via optics.

The new iPhone’s lens also totes an aperture of f/2.4, new CMOS sensor with backside illumination, and a new Hybrid IR filter for better color rendering. All these improvements turn the iPhone 4S into a very capable digital camera replacement for the regular user. Taking shots proved to be very snappy, colors were more accurate, the dynamic range was wider, and had less noise despite the higher resolution sensor over the iPhone 4, the video below was shot on the iPhone 4S in full HD at 1080p.

With the iPhone 4S getting the A5 chip also found on the iPad 2, the operating speed and graphics display, as expected, went up another notch. The iPhone 4 is no slouch in the speed category as well, but Apple’s latest gem just feels faster especially when using apps that require a lot of graphics. The PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics on the iPhone 4S is quoted to be “seven times better” than the PowerVR SGX 535 on the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4S has a new, slightly higher capacity battery, though the advertised battery times by Apple shows that the battery life between the two devices are almost identical. Stand-by time on the 4S is 200 hours both on 2G and 3G while the iPhone 4 had a better time of 300 hours on both bands.

The problem seems to be a software issue and Apple has recently released the iOS 5.0.1 update to fix it. Some users have claimed that the update have somehow addressed their battery problems. But for those who still experience them, Apple has released iOS 5.1 to developers which may hopefully put an end to users’ battery woes.

With the iPhone 4 “antennagate” issue that blew up the Internet last year, Apple seemed to have learned its lesson. They’ve now made sure that the iPhone 4S is up to par in terms of call quality and reception. The infamous death grip is no longer an issue and users can, thankfully, use their phone even without a bumper case on. In terms of data speed, the 4S’ HSDPA is rated at 14.4 Mbps: double that of the previous version. On HSUPA, the two devices are almost identical with the latest version at 5.8 Mbps and the iPhone 4 at 5.7 Mbps. It is worth noting that Apple dubs its latest offering as a world phone, which means it supports both CDMA and GSM.

A quick glance at the Apple website shows the iPhone 4S is for sale at $199 for the 16GB version, $299 for the 32GB, and $399 for the 64GB. The iPhone4 at 8GB is being sold for $99. All prices come with a network contract.

Conclusion

After a rundown of the two iPhone models, it’s quite obvious the latest version packs a lot of improved features. It should also be faster in pretty much all aspects, all while being enclosed in a familiar shell. And while there is nothing really revolutionary about it for some, the iPhone 4S has enough to lure majority of consumers with its fast processor, good camera, and the availability of tons of apps.

This is quite a tough one to call if you already own an iPhone 4, although if you use your iPhone for taking a lot of photos, then the new 8 megapixel camera may be worth the upgrade.

The addition of Siri to the iPhone 4S isn’t really a deal breaker, and you can probably live without it, as it is still in beta at the moment, and more of a novelty than a useful tool.

Whether you choose the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S, they are both great smartphones, and you get many of the features, Siri excluded on the iPhone 4, as you do on the iPhone 4S thanks to Apple’s iOS 5.

Many of our administrators are facing a deleted file on a server especially when its on the file server.

In this article we try to teach you how to trace a deleted file on a server by the user.

This can be accomplished through auditing. Lets start out by identifying what folder we want to watch – and be careful where you turn on auditing…turn it on too many folders with too many options and you can have huge performance issues.

We find the folder we want, and right click on it and go to properties:

This will bring up the properties page for the folder. Move over to the security tab, and click on the advanced button:

The advanced page will appear. Click on the Auditing tab, and click the add button:

A user dialog will come up. I chose to put the “Everyone” group here. This allows me to audit for any possible user account that may be deleting files. If you think you know who it might be…you could put those users here instead. The smaller window of users being audited means better performance.

Once you click OK, a selection box will be displayed. Again – chose only the options you need. Each additional option will reduce performance. Here I just pick the options to audit deleting files and folders:

Click OK through all of the windows you have open. If a user deletes a file or folder Windows will write an event to the security log.

Now. We have our auditing turned on, and you get to work one morning and find that files are missing. Simply open the event viewer and move over to the security log. Look for the event ID 560:

Double click on the event, and you will need to sit there and read it for a little bit to determine who did what. Here is an excerpt from mine (I copied the text from event viewer to notepad for easier reading)

We can see from this log entry that the user Administrator deleted the file setuperr.log

Now when someone deletes a file, you will have no problem determining who did it.

Microsoft released its fourth "platform preview" of Internet Explorer 10 today, adding a collection of new features to what's shaping up to be a surprisingly feisty browser.

The new version supports a number of new features detailed in a blog post by Rob Mauceri, program manager of the IE group. Among the features are support for JavaScript typed arrays, which lets Web apps handle raw data such as files better, and HTML5 video features such as the ability to link to a specific time in a video and to add captions.

"These foundational capabilities are what developers building native applications depend on: working with binary data and files, controlling selection and hit testing in application UI, and providing accessible video content with captioning," Mauceri said.

But in case there's any doubt about who's the boss at Microsoft--the IE team or the Windows team--there's one telling data point that shows it's the latter. The fourth IE10 platform preview, like the impressive third, is available only in a developer's build of Windows 8. That means any developer who wants to test a Web technology with IE10 will, to at least a small degree, become a Windows 8 developer too.

It's been fascinating watching Microsoft's efforts over the last few years, as it revved Internet Explorer from an embarrassing laggard toward a cutting-edge future.

Always at the back of my mind, though, was the question: why? Browser maker Netscape was so scary to Microsoft in the 1990s, with its idea that the Web would become a software platform to rival Windows, that Microsoft struck back hard. Hard enough that the Justice Department ran Microsoft through the antitrust litigation ringer.

Sure, it must have been painful to watch Firefox programmers steadily gain share and prove that browsers matter. But the better Web applications get, the more Microsoft stands to lose, as I saw it. Indeed, when I started using a Mac for work in earnest because my Windows machine croaked, it was Web applications that made the transition relatively painless. Most of the time, I don't care which operating system my browser is running.

Nevertheless, Microsoft arrived in force with IE9, which supported a lot of newer Web technologies, such as Canvas graphics, more recent CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) formatting features, and SVG (and Scalable Vector Graphics). It sped up the all-important JavaScript programming language of the Web and injected a dose of hardware acceleration.
Well, with Windows 8, we have an answer to why Microsoft could justify all that: it's embracing the Web app platform in earnest.

Windows 8's Metro user interface for Win8 uses all those Web standards. So it turns out that building a modern, competitive browser can be compatible with driving the Windows agenda too.
"The features in this platform preview are available to Web pages now and will be available to Metro-style applications in Windows 8," Mauceri said.

Another example of the agenda at work is the fact that IE9 is available only for Windows 7 or recent versions of Windows Vista. (IE10 will require Windows 7 or later.) If Microsoft had truly wanted to make IE competitive, it could have created a version for the legions of people still using Windows XP--albeit a version that likely would have had to have been dumbed down somewhat. Firefox, Chrome, and Opera developers all are supporting Windows XP to try to bring users of that operating system a better Web.

IE9 leaving XP behind greatly simplifies its development, but it also makes it easier to put the 10-year-old Windows XP firmly in the "legacy" category, deserving attention only for major security problems. By the time Windows 8 arrives next year, Windows XP will be another year into the rear-view mirror.

Eventually, IE10 platform previews will be available for a wider audience--those who don't want to brave a massive Win8 download and installation hassle.
"This preview is for Windows 8, like platform preview 3," Microsoft told me in a statement. "IE10 builds for Windows 7 will resume later in the development cycle."
But for now, helping the fortunes of Windows 8 clearly is the top priority.

You can make use of an existing LDAP directory to authenticate users to GLPI. Once you configure LDAP authentication, LDAP users will be added to the GLPI database as they log on. Some of the LDAP attributes (Name, email address, location) will be copied to the GLPI user database - with this approach GLPI is able to use more than one authentication scheme (e.g. simply use LDAP and GLPI-integrated logins together).

Parameters are slightly different depending on the LDAP implementation you are using. Microsoft Active Directory in particular uses attribute names which differ from standard LDAP attributes.

If you want to install this software GLPI in windows Server you need the following:

Please follow what is written below:
1- "BaseDN" field is the domain (AD) distinguished name (ex: if your AD domain is zaki.rimawi.com, then it MUST BE: "DC=zaki,DC=rimawi,DC=com") without double quotation.
2- "rootDN" field is the windows user login who has read access to AD (for example: "myDomain\myUser" ); it must be a valid windows user login.
Example: if myDomain=Rimawi ,myUser=Zaki then you must write in the "rootDN" field : " Rimawi\Zaki" without double quotation,"Pass" field is the windows password for this user.
3- "Login field" is the AD field to retrieve the users login: it MUST BE "samaccountname" (this is the AD field that stores the logins in AD) without double quotation.

Then go to Administration ==> Users ==>LDAP directory ==>Import new users ==> Search.
then you must found all Windows AD Users then choose them and import them in GLPI.

Install WSUS on Windows Server 2008

Open Server Manager > Add Roles

Configure on Windows Server 2008

Use existing SQL 2005 Server or choose Windows Internal Database

Announcing the integration of Yahoo traffic data into Bing Webmaster Tools reports

Bing Webmaster Tools will now be showing integrated data from Yahoo within certain areas and reports. Given the combined effort the Search Alliance represents, it makes sense to showcase relevant data from both engines within a webmaster account. Most areas and data within the accounts will not be affected. The short list of areas you will notice changes in are as follows:
On the Traffic Tab: Traffic summary report and Page Traffic reports will be impacted as follows:

Impressions – will go up based on combined data numbers
Clicks – will go up based on combined data numbers
Click Through Rates (CTR) as appropriate from above (change only due to the mathematics involved in the first two items)

Impressions data will rise because we will now be showing you combined impressions for your listings across both search engines. For each query term in the list within the report, your impressions represent the combined number of times your result showed, based on queries initiated by searchers at both Bing and Yahoo. Clicks data will follow the same pattern. CTR data is a factor of the first two items, and will rise or fall based on searcher click activity at each search engine.
The changes affect the numbers shown only. No actual rankings will be affected by the combining of data within Bing Webmaster Tools. As a visual reminder that data is now combined, you will see both the Bing and Yahoo logos directly above the graphs shown on these pages.

At this time the data will be combined, not selectable. The data will also update in any market where Bing is powering Yahoo search.
The data integraton began on August 12th. It took roughly four days for all of the data to populate across accounts to the full extent. For the month of August, accounts will note the changes in data numbers between the 12th and the 16th. September will be the first full month of combined data.

Let's take a look at some of the bigger ticket issues folks should focus on when optimizing their websites. This list is not meant to cover everything, but to focus in on some of the more important aspects you should look at addressing. The first part of this list is presented in a rough order of importance based on getting work done. In many case, you'll find your own circumstances won't allow your focus and investments to match this list. Don't sweat it. This list represents the ideal for a freshly planned website, prior to being built out. If your circumstances slide you in at random points in this list, don't worry about it. The point is this is a solid place to start from. As opposed to, say... investing time in a link buying program, or in a social "liking" scheme.

Crawlability
If a crawler can’t access your content, the content won’t be indexed by search engines, nor will it be ranked. Enable and use XML sitemaps with a low error rate to build trust with search engines. Make sure your website navigation is clean and strive for a simple, search-friendly URL structure. This means the URL is keyword rich and avoids session variables or docIDs. We suggest you use robots.txt files to instruct the crawlers on how to interact with your webpage and more easily find your content.
Site Structure
Provide a site structure with strong functionality, which helps encourage link building. Linking to both trusted outside sources and internal content shows a search engine you care about users getting the best data around their query. In addition, HTML sitemaps ensure a good user experience and help search engines discover all your pages and content.
Content Hierarchy
When you plan your website’s content hierarchy, take care in aligning your content with what searchers are looking for and their intent during their journey on your URL. Basic keyword research can also help you understand how searchers are interacting with search engines, and can help craft your content strategy. Also avoid placing links and content inside rich media applications, such as Flash and Silverlight, which make it almost impossible for crawlers to find and read the content. Just gotta have your rich media? Not to worry. Make sure a solid downlevel experience exists and we'll still find your content.
On-Page Factors
Follow a few simple guidelines for the area inside the code of your webpage denoted by the <head> tag. Each <title> should be short, about 65 characters, and unique to the page. Include the keyword you’re targeting for that page near the beginning of the title. The <meta description> tag can be longer and should also contain the keyword or phrase you’re targeting. All content should be unique to every page and be based on keyword research. Don't worry about investing time discussing whether the <h1> tag outweights the value of a proper <alt> tag. Invest your time in producing better content. Splitting hairs doesn't move your rankings nearly as much as excellent content.
Content Production
Content is king, but not all content is fit to rule. What the engines seek is compelling, unique content. And while we judge what "compelling" means to a degree, what's more important is how searchers react to your content when we show your webpage to them in a search engine results page (SERP). Your job is to create content so compelling that visitors to your site feel no need to look elsewhere to have their needs met. The worst approach leaves you to seem "thin" in your approach. This essentially means you aren't really providing content of value. An example of this would be a website aggregating content from multiple sources on one page. Such an approach amounts to little more than a links page related to the query entered. While you may be tempted to say, "But that helps the searcher by bringing everything they need into one location", remember that that's the search engine's job. We bring the results back so the user can click on links to find the content. Adding yet another layer of clicking by showcasing thin-content links pages doesn't help the search find what they seek faster. From the SERP page to the searcher's goal, these types of pages add another click layer, making the task completion process longer, not shorter.
When you build content, ask yourself if you've answered the need the searcher expressed. Now ask, if you've covered any related topics that come obviously to mind. Ask yourself why your webpage stand out. Why is your webpage better than all the rest? What does your content bring forward that others miss?
This is why content from articles or syndication cannot stand alone and rank successfully. Unique content brings forward elements that others may miss, which is why that content outranks others targeting the same phrase.
Link Building
When you build links, work to get targeted keywords inserted into the anchor text to boost relevancy for the targeted search term. This increases a link’s perceived value to both users and search engines. Encourage links to your page by integrating social network icons which allow visitors to easily share your page. More eyes on your page can increase the odds it will be linked from an outside source. And remember that inter-linking between your own domains can look like a spam tactic. The best way to get links, though, is to provide excellent, unique content. You should avoid services which claim to be able to build you a number of organic links for a fee. Often they claim things like "Get 100 organic links in 7 days for under $50!". We can assure you the value of almost every one of those links will be pretty much zero. Whether the link comes from a spammy website, or we simply see a repetitive pattern, we'll discount the value you were hoping to obtain from the links leaving you out money with no gains to show in the rankings.
Things we love
Beyond the items listed above, here are a few items we love to see websites doing. While none on their own will vault you to the top of the rankings, they remain best practices you should look to engage in. These are not in any order of priority:

RSS feeds - get them up and running and keep them clean. By following your feeds, it's easier for the engine to get your latest content. This means we see it faster, so indexing, ranking and showing in the SERPs can happen faster. Want to really impress Bing? Get into your Bing Webmaster account and insert your RSS feed URL into the sitemap submission flow.
Mark it up - check out the ideas presented at www.schema.org. This jointly supported protocol (Bing/Yahoo/Google) enables you to "mark up" your content, essentially embedding tags into your page code to help us better understand your content. This can range from videos to images, recipes to geolocation information. Lots of tags are supported today, so hit the schema.org site to see what's applicable for you. Again, this helps us better understand your content, and the better we understand it, the more likely we are to be able to return you for matches to queries.
Wonderful UX - sites that have an excellent user experience tend to rank better. Why? Because people like them. Yes, it is that simple. While you need to work on a lot of signals to be successful in search, you also need to find a balance. Page load times are a perfect example. Some sites take this one signal to the extreme, paring down their site to an absolute minimum hoping PLT will vault them up in the rankings. The trouble with this approach is that by removing things from the page to speed page load times, you erode the user experience in most cases. While machines calculate page load times in fractions of a second, humans are much more forgiving. Stay focused on pleasing your human visitors first and foremost. You shouldn't ignore PLT, but taking PLT from 1/2 second to 1/4 second will be largely lost on your visitors. The engines will appreciate it, but if you had to remove content or functionality to save the 1/4 second load time, now your UX for the humans has suffered. Balance, ...with humans first.
Social love - manage social or social will manage you. That's a fact, Jack. Plan your approach to social carefully and execute consistently. Build your presence so that followers see you as an authority and a resource. Again this is a balancing act, but one you can get attuned to quickly enough. Just make sure you bring value to your followers consistently. People like links in their inbound tweets and wall posts - don't disappoint them. Fill your social program to the brim with value and folks will love you. Pssst...we see all this happening and it helps us determine the sentiment surrounding your pages, products and services. Good is good, bad is bad. Even if you’re not active socially, you still need to monitor social spaces to understand what others are saying about you. Are happy shoppers spreading the good word about you? Are unhappy shoppers telling their stories to the world? These are things you need to know.

Prerequisites for Firmware update:

Please note that before proceeding to the updating of the Galaxy S, ensure that your phone is having the model number as Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 and not any other similar looking phones like Captivate, Mesmerize, SL I9003 or any other phones as if you install with this firmware then some of the functionalities won’t run and could even lead to serious damage to your phone.
Ensure that all data which is present in your phone is backed up in your computer which can be done.
You have removed the SIM card as well as the external SD cards if any in the phone,
Most importantly you need to ensure that your phone has atleast75-80% of battery power left.
Ensure that your computer / laptop which runs on a XP, Vista or Windows 7 OS the firewall and other antivirus programs are disabled and also you should have admin privileges to download and install the software including the drivers and also along with this you will be requiring the USB port on your computer which supports USB 2.0.
Ensure that you disable any firewalls, antivirus if any. Be rest assured as all the files which are mentioned in this article are safe and virus free.

Procedure to install Gingerbread 2.3.3 (Arabic) JPJV6:

First of all you will have to download the Gingerbread 2.3.3 JPJV6 Zip file from here and need to unzip the same to get a tar file named “jv6_jv6_jv6.tar”and also the flash tool Odin. Please note that in the process of extraction, if you are prompted to enter any password then enter the password as “http://engrimawi.blogspot.com” without the inverted comas. Preferably, extract to the desktop so that you can easily find the file for flashing it to your phone. Please note that you should not rename the file in any manner or else the files won’t be recognized by the flashing tool which is Odin in this case.

Now you will have to put your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 in the download mode which can be done by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device. If you have successfully entered into the download mode then you will see a green screen which is shown below. Also, additionally note that if the device boots in the normal mode with the home screen then you will have to again switch off the device and retry the process and if despite retrying you are unable to get into download mode then you will have to fix the download mode error for your phone. You can see the download mode screen on how it looks like.

Now, after putting the Galaxy S in the download mode it’s time to open the Odin flash tool which is there in the extracted contents of the firmware folder. Just click on the Odin to open the same and after this you will have to connect the phone with the computer with the help of USB cable which you have got at the time of purchase of your Galaxy S GT I9000.

At this moment, as soon as you connect the phone, the ID : COM block will turn yellow as you can see in the below screen shot and also in the message box.

So, after following the above steps carefully, it’s time to proceed ahead for selecting the file to downgrade the software version to the official DDJG4 Eclair 2.1. Ensuring that the phone is connected, you will have to click on the PDA option id Odin and then you will have to select the tar file which you have downloaded and extracted which is jv6_jv6_jv6.tar. After selecting the file, you will not have to change any other parameters like the Re partition etc. Also, most importantly you don’t have to choose any files in the PIT, Phone as well as CSC in the Odin.

Please note that after adding this file, just simply click on the “Start” option to start the firmware update process. After clicking on the start, you will see that the firmware will be installed in your phone within a time of not more than 5 minutes.

After the Galaxy S reboots, you will have see the home screen and then choose the options accordingly and then after you see the home screen and after the completion of Media scanning, you will have to go in the recovery mode wherein you will have to delete the cache memory so that all unwanted files are removed if there are any left in the phone.

For this you will have to first turn off your device, long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start. You can see that after device gets switched ON, you will find options like clear cache data. You can clear that by selecting options Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition after which you need to reboot your device by selecting reboot system now after which your Galaxy S will be rebooting and again you will have to set up your Google accounts etc. Doing this will not only optimize the battery but will also remove all the data flux from your phone.

So, there you go, you have now successfully installed the latest firmware for your Galaxy S which is the Arabic Gingerbread version. To check on which firmware you are currently on, you will have to go to the Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will find the version of Android OS where it will show 2.3.3. As you can see above that we have shown some of the images of latest Gingerbread update. You will see that the version will be 2.3.3 and the version name will be JPJV6.

Other then the obvious, the letter "L," there's not much of a difference between the two extensions. Most, if not all, web browsers and servers will treat a file with an HTM extension exactly as it would a file with an HTML extension, and vice versa.

Practical Differences

Practically speaking, there is no difference between the two extensions. Both denote that the file contains HTML. This is really a matter of convention and is not an absolute, but most realize that a file whose extension is htm or html contains HTML.

On most, if not all, servers either file will be sent with a MIME type of text/html by default. This can usually be changed by the server's administrator(s), but is, more often then not, left alone.
On most, if not all, browsers, either file will be displayed as intended (i.e. rendered according to the browser's default manner of displaying HTML documents). This last is due more to the MIME type sent by the server then by the file's extension, but that's a matter for another FAQ.
Generally, the use of htm over html, or vice versa, is left to the author's personal preferences.

Technical Differences

Technically speaking there are few to no important differences. An obvious difference is the addition of the letter "L" in the html extension. The technical difference that the additional letter will make to the operating system is better left to a different discussion but in the context of a web author, the additional "L" will make no difference.
The technical difference that the additional letter will make to an http server (a "web server") is minimal. Usually, a server will use a file's extension to figure out what MIME type to send back to the requesting client. Most servers are configured by default to send back the text/html type when the requested file ends in an htm or html extension. This can be changed by the server's administrator(s) in such a way that one of the above extensions returns a different MIME type then the other, however, this is not a very common practice.
It is a common misconception that a file ending in an htm extension had to have been created on a DOS/Windows 3.x platform. This is because those operating environments limit filenames to a 3 letter extension. However, it is very simple to create a file with a 3 letter extension on most other platforms, as well. Even those that allow longer file extensions.

Default Filenames

The one situation in which there may be a difference between the two extensions is that of a server's default filenames. When a URL that does not specify a filename is requested from a server, such as http://www.domain.dom/dirname/, the server returns a file from the requested URL that matches a default filename. Examples of common default filenames include "index.html," "index.htm," "welcome.html," "welcome.htm," "default.html," "default.htm," etc. However, an administrator can make the server's default filename anything he/she so desires.
In the case of a default file, the author's filename must be exactly the same as the server's default filename. In other words, if your server is configured to use "index.html" as the default filename, your file must be named "index.html" and not "index.htm."
Note that servers are often configured with more then one default filename. Check with your server administrator or ISP for details about your specific server.

Since Windows 2000, Active Directory has been the driving force behind Microsoft Server Networking Services.
Active Directory provides the structure to centralize the network and store information about network resources across the entire domain. Active Directory uses Domain Controllers to keep this centralized storage available to network users.
In this scenario we are going to install Active Directory fresh with a brand new Domain Controller after a fresh install of Windows Server 2008.

Requirements for Active Directory Domain Services

Let’s go through some of the requirements for a fresh install of Active Directory Domain Services. Some of these will be required to be done before hand; others as noted can be done during the install:

Install Windows Server 2008
Configure TCP/IP and DNS networking configurations
The disk drives that store SYSVOL must be on a local drive configured NTFS
Active Directory requires DNS to be installed in the network. If it is not already installed you can specify DNS server to be installed during the Active Directory Domain Services installation.

Once you verify that these requirements have been met we can get started.

How to Install Active Directory Domain Services via Server Manager

For the first example let’s start by installing Active Directory through Server Manager. This is the most straight forward way, as a wizard will guide you through the steps necessary.
1. Start Server Manager.
2. Select Roles in the left pane, then click on Add Roles in the center console.

3. Depending on whether you checked off to skip the Before You Begin page while installing another service, you will now see warning pages telling you to make sure you have strong security, static IP, and latest patches before adding roles to your server.
If you get this page, then just click Next.

4. In the Select Server Roles window we are going to place a check next to Active Directory Domain Services and click Next.

5. The information page on Active Directory Domain Services will give the following warnings, which after reading, you should click Next:

Install a minimum of two Domain Controllers to provide redundancy against server outage (which would prevent users from logging in with only one)
AD DS requires DNS which if not installed you will be prompted for
After installing AD DS you must run dcpromo.exe to upgrade to a fully functional domain controller
Installing AD DS will also install DFS Namespaces, DFS Replication, and Filer Replication services which are required by Directory Service

6. The Confirm Installation Selections screen will show you some information messages and warn that the server may need to be restarted after installation. Review the information and then click Next.

7. The Installation Results screen will hopefully show Installation Succeeded, and an additional warning about running dcpromo.exe (I think they really want us to run dcpromo).
After you review the, click Close.

8. After the Installation Wizard closes you will see that server manager is showing that Active Directory Domain Services is still not running. This is because we have not run dcpromo yet.

9. Click on the Start button, type dcpromo.exe in the search box and either hit Enter or click on the search result.

10. The Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard will now start. There are links to more information if you want to learn a bit more you can follow them or you can go ahead and click Use advanced mode installation and then click Next.

11. The next screen warns about some operating system compatibility with some older clients.
For more information you can view the support documentation from Microsoft and after you have read through it go ahead and click Next.

12. Next is the Choose Deployment Configuration screen and you can choose to add a domain to an existing forest or create a forest from scratch. Choose Create a new domain in a new forest and click Next.

13. The Name the Forest Root Domain wants you to name the root domain of the forest you are creating.
For the purposes of this test we will create ADExample.com. After typing that go ahead and click Next.

14. The wizard will test to see if that name has been used, after a few seconds you will then be asked for the NetBios name for the domain. In this case I will leave the default in place of ADEXAMPLE, and then click Next.

15. The next screen is the Set Forest Functional Level that allows you to choose the function level of the forest.
Since this is a fresh install and a new forest with no additional prior version domains to worry about I am going to select Windows Server 2008. If you did have other domain controllers at earlier versions or had a need to have Windows 2000 or 2003 domain controllers (because of Exchange for example), then you should select the appropriate function level.
Select Windows Server 2008 and then click Next.

16. Now we come to the Additional Domain Controller Options where you can select to install a DNS server, which is recommended on the first domain controller.
If this was not the first domain controller you would have the options of installing Global Catalog and/or setting this as a Read-only Domain Controller. Since it is the first domain controller, Global Catalog is mandatory, and a RDOC controller is not an available option.
Let’s install the DNS Server by placing a check next to it and clicking Next.

17. You will get a warning window about delegation for this DNS server cannot be created, but since this is the first DNS server you can just click Yes and ignore this warning.

18. Next you can choose to place the files that are necessary for Active Directory, including the Database, Log Files, and SYSVOL.
It is recommended to place the log files and database on a separate volume for performance and recoverability. You can just leave the defaults though and click Next.

19. Now choose a password for Directory Services Restore Mode that is different than the domain password. Type your password and confirm it before hitting Next.
Note: You should use a STRONG password for this and will be warned if it doesn’t meet criteria.

20. Next you will see a summary of all the options you have went through in the wizard.
If you plan on creating more domain controllers with the same settings hit the Export settings … button to save off a txt copy of the settings to use in an answer file for a scripted install. After exporting and reviewing settings click on Next.

21. Now the installation will start including the DNS server option if selected. You will notice a box to Reboot on completion that you can check to reboot soon as everything is installed (A reboot is required you can do it manually or use this function to do it automatically).
NOTE: This can be from a few minutes to several hours depending on different factors.

Confirming Active Directory Domain Services Install

When you reboot you will be asked to login to the domain, and be able to open Active Directory Users and Computers from the Administrative menu. When you do you will see the domain ADExample.com and be able to manage the domain.

You have now successfully installed Active Directory Domain Services and the first Domain Controller.

Installing Distributed File System (DFS),Install DFS Role on Windows server 2008

DFS stands for Distributed File System and provides two very important benefits for system administrators of Wide Area Networks (WAN) with multiple sites that have a need to easily store, replicate, and find files across all locations.
The first is the benefit of being able to have one Namespace that all users can use, no matter what their location, to locate the files they share and use.

The second is a configurable automatic replication service that keeps files in sync across various locations to make sure that everyone is using the same version.
Let’s take a look at these two very important aspects of DFS.
DFS NameSpaces – Each namespace appears as a folder with subfolders underneath.
The trick to this is that those folders and files can be on any shared folder on any server in your network without the user having to do any complicated memorization of server and share names. This logical grouping of your shares will also make it easier for users at different sites to share files without resorting to emailing them back and forth.

DFS Replication – This service keeps multiple copies of files in sync.
Why would you need this? Well if you want to improve performance for your DFS users you can have multiple copies of your files at each site. That way a user would be redirected to the file local to them, even though they came through the DFS Namespace. If the user changed the file it would then replicate out to keep all copies out in the DFS Namespace up to date. This feature of course is completely configurable.

What’s New in DFS Server 2008?

Distributed File System in Server 2008 has added some additional functionality and improved stability from some of the problems that might have plagued earlier DFS implementations.
Most new features are contingent on running your DFS NameSpace in Server 2008 mode which means all servers are Windows Server 2008 AND the domain is running at Server 2008 domain functional level.

DFS NameSpaces Changes in Server 2008:

Access-based Enumeration – Users are only allowed to see files and folders that they have access to through permissions.
This feature requires either a standalone Server 2008 NameSpace or a domain based NameSpace running in 2008 domain functional level. It is not enabled by default and has to be activated through the following command line:
dfsutil property abde enable \\‹namespace_root›
Improved Command Line Tools – Windows Server 2008 DFS NameSpaces has a new version of dfsUtil and a diagnostic tool to help troubleshoot issues named dfsdiag.
Search within the DFS NameSpace – Windows Server 2008 has the ability to run a search through the NameSpace and target folders.
Convenient if you want to do a targeted search across all the documents in the NameSpace instead of having to attach to each server.

Improved Functionality in DFS Replication in Server 2008:

Performance Improvements – Server 2008 DFS Replication includes several improvements including: Faster replication both for small and large files, Initial synchronization is faster, Network bandwidth is utilized better.
Improved Unexpected Shutdowns Handling – There are a few reasons for unexpected shutdown of the DFS NameSpace, and when they occur it can cause the NameSpace database to become corrupt or out of sync. In earlier versions of DFS, this could cause the entire database to be rebuilt which would be very time consuming and resource intensive. The Windows Server 2008 DFS rarely has to rebuild its database after an unexpected shutdown and allows a much quicker recovery.
Content Freshness – A new feature in Windows Server 2008 DFS keeps servers that are part of the DFS NameSpace that might be offline for an extended period of time from overwriting other servers when it comes back online.
Replicate Now – Administrators now have the ability to force replication in the NameSpace on demand, temporarily ignoring the replication schedule.
Support for Read Only Domain Controllers (RODC) – Any changes detected on the RODC are rolled back by the DFS Replication service.
SYSVOL Replication – Server 2008 replaces the use of FRS (File Replication Service) with DFS Replication for Active Directory DS for domains that are running at the Server 2008 functional level.
Propagation Report – Shows a report based on a test file created during a diagnostic propagation test.

Install DFS Role on Windows Server 2008

Now that we know more than we probably wanted to about Windows Server 2008 DFS NameSpaces let’s go ahead and run through installing the role on a server. For our example I am using a Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller running Active Directory DS at the Server 2008 functional level.
1. Open Server Manager.
2. Go to Roles in the left pane, then click Add Roles in the center pane.

3. Select File Services from the list of roles.
You will see a short description of what the File Services role provides in the upper right corner in case you needed it. Click Next when done.

4. Now you will get an Introduction to File Services information screen; read through it and move on by clicking Next.

5. In Select Service Roles you can click on Distributed File System and it should also place a check next to DFS Namespaces & DFS Replication; after this click Next.
NOTE: At the bottom you will see Windows Server 2003 File Services and File Replication Service. You would only choose this if you were going to be synchronizing the 2008 server with old servers using the FRS service.

6. On the Create a DFS Namespace screen you can choose to create a namespace now or later.
For this tutorial I am going to create one later as I will have another article going into greater details. So I am going to choose Create a namespace later using the DFS Management snap-in in Server Manager and then click Next.

7. The next screen allows you to confirm your installation selections, so review and then click Install.

8. After a short interval of loading you will see the Installation Results screen which will hopefully have Installation succeeded in the top right. Go ahead and click Close.

9. In Server Manager you should now see File Services and under the Role Services you will see the installed components:

DFS Replication

Skype is owned by an investment group led by Silver Lake, which bought the real-time voice and video company from its previous owner, eBay, in 2009 for slightly more than $2 billion. It was founded in 2003 and now has 170 million connected users who chatted for 207 billion minutes last year.
The company will become a new division of Microsoft and will be led by its current chief executive, Tony Bates.

News of the all-cash deal sent Microsoft shares down less than a percent to $25.72 in early morning trading. But Ben Horowitz, general partner of Menlo Park-based venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz -- an owner of Skype along with Silver Lake -- said the purchase is a "smart move."

The combination, he said, will give Skype and Microsoft the competitive heft to combat Google and the Facetime video chat function from the Apple iPhone.

"Many observers believed that as the world inevitably transitioned to mobile and Web, Skype would be left in the dust," Horowitz wrote in a blog post. "In retrospect, it was easy for people to underestimate the quality of the Skype engineering team and the power of Skype's network effect."

The boards of both companies have approved the deal, which is now subject to regulatory approval. The companies said they hope to finalize the deal this year.

Google also introduced an on-screen keyboard option. In practice, this means anyone who can read and write Cherokee can look up anything on Google. Users can change their language setting to Cherokee here.

Cherokee, an Iroquoian language, did not have a written form until the early 19th century, when it got a syllabary (a set of written symbols to represent syllables) writing system. The Cherokee Nation has about 300,000 members, though only about 20,000 people speak the Cherokee language.

“I believe that efforts like those of Google are essential to keeping our language alive,” Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith said in a statement. “We have been working hard to get our young people interested in learning our Native tongue, but we cannot be successful unless they can read and write in the medium of their era -– all the digital devices that are currently so popular.”

With this latest addition, Google now supports 146 interface languages and encourages users to sign up for Google in Your Language to make a case for interfaces in other endangered languages.

Google made similar additions of other North American native languages Maya and Nahuatl last year.

Backup Exec selects media

A common problem with Backup Exec is that unexpected media get used for a backup job. This generally stems from the complexity of a few settings, combined with misunderstandings about how media sets work.
Once you have your media sets configured, you need to think about how you want the media to be used for the backup jobs. The two settings that determine the selection criteria are the Overwrite Protection Level and the Media Overwrite Option. When you first configure Backup Exec, you get asked what you want to set for these options. Unless you knew otherwise, you probably chose the defaults.
The Overwrite Protection Level determines how aggressively Backup Exec is going to try and protect your data. There are three options:

Full - Overwrite Protection Periods will be applied to media sets
Partial - Overwrite Protection Periods will be applied to media sets
None - Overwrite Protection Periods will not be applied to media sets

Starting with the easiest to eliminate, the None options means that any media can be overwritten, regardless of any Overwrite Protection Period you have set. Unless you have a specific need for this, I'd advise against it.
The Full and Partial options are very similar. The difference is that if you choose Partial, then imported media can be overwritten. The safest option is to choose Full protection. If you frequently import media and use it for your backup jobs, use partial.
Once you have set your Overwrite Protection Level, you need to set the Media Overwrite option. This determines whether Backup Exec is going to be biased towards using new media first, or reusing old media first. The options are:

Overwrite scratch media before overwriting recyclable media contained in the targeted media set
Overwrite recyclable media contained in the targeted media set before overwriting scratch media

The first option will encourage Backup Exec to use any new tapes rather than overwrite older tapes. The second option will encourage Backup Exec to overwrite older tapes rather than use new media.
Once you've understood and configured these two options, how does Backup Exec actually choose what media to use? The first thing that is used to determine is what tape drive, library, library partition, or B2D folder is selected. Obviously for a tape drive, or partition with only one tape in, either the media is usable or it's not.
On page 229 and 230 of the Backup Exec 10d Administrator's Guide there is a table which tells you the answer, so rather than copy that, I'd encourage you to read it for yourself. However, if you have Full Overwrite Protection set, I'll summarise:

An overwrite job with Overwrite scratch media first set:

Use any media in the scratch set
Use the oldest (if any) recyclable (overwritable) media in the targeted media set
Use the oldest (if any) recyclable (overwritable) media in any other media set

It's clear to see that with the first option, if you have plenty of scratch media to start with, it'll get used up quickly!

An append job

If any appendable media is found in the backup device, that is used first. If no appendable media is found, then either the job changes to an overwrite job, or the job is terminated. If an append job fills a tape, then the next overwritable piece of media is used to continue the job.

After two years since Internet Explorer 8 was launched,has released the final version of its latest web browser, Internet Explorer 9, available for download. Thanks to powerful competitors (Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox) and the declining usage of Internet Explorer in general, Microsoft was forced to rebuild Internet Explorer not only to run faster (and to be more responsive), simpler and more secure, but also to be redeem itself in the eyes of web developers and standards-savvy designers against the bad reputation of being a non standards compliant browser.

The first thing you'll notice when you run Internet Explorer 9 for the first time is its new, simplified and minimalist interface. There is a single location bar for searches and URLs (similar to Google Chrome) and the browser tabs opens on the same row as the location bar in a single strip alongside. There are of course, pros and cons associated with this. The benefit is clear - more browsing room. Although, if you open several tabs at the same time, it becomes difficult to distinguish the tabs. Among other news, the Stop and Refresh buttons live now inside the location bar along with the search drop-down menu icon. Also, all items associated with print, safety and other controls have gone now into the Tools menu.

As Internet Explorer 8, the browser has tab sand-boxing. IPv6 addressing, however, includes several other types of unicast IPv6 addresses beside the global unicast address. Additionally, IPv6 defines other general categories of ad- dresses, as summarized in this list.

■ Unicast: Like IPv4, hosts and routers assign these IP addresses to a single interface for the purpose of allowing that one host or interface to send and receive IP packets.
■ Multicast: Like IPv4, these addresses represent a dynamic group of hosts, allowing a host to send one packet that is then delivered to every host in the multicast group. IPv6 defines some special-purpose multicast addresses for overhead functions (such as NDP). IPv6 also defines ranges of multicast addresses for application use.
■ Anycast: This address type allows the implementation of a nearest server among du- plicate servers concept. This design choice allows servers that support the exact same function to use the exact same unicast IP address. The routers then forward a packet destined for such an address to the nearest server that is using the address.

Unicast IPv6 Addresses
IPv6 supports three main types of unicast addresses: link local, global unicast, and unique local. This section takes a brief look at link local and unique local addresses.Unique local unicast IPv6 addresses have the same function as IPv4 RFC 1918 private ad-dresses. RFC 4193 states that these addresses should be used inside a private organiza-tion, and should not be advertised into the Internet. Unique local unicast addresses begin with hex FD (FD00::/8) .

Link Local Unicast Addresses
IPv6 uses link local addresses for sending and receiving IPv6 packets on a single subnet. Many such uses exist; here’s just a small sample:
■ Used as the source address for RS and RA messages for router discovery (as previ-ously shown in Figure 16-7)
■ Used by Neighbor discovery (the equivalent of ARP for IPv6)
■ As the next-hop IPv6 address for IP routes By definition, routers use a link local scope for packets sent to a link local IPv6 address. The term link local scope means exactly that–the packet should not leave the local link, or local subnet if you will. When a router receives a packet destined for such a destination address, the router does not forward the packet.
The link local IPv6 addresses also help solve some chicken-and-egg problems because each host, router interface, or other device can calculate its own link local IPv6 address without needing to communicate with any other device. So, before sending the first pack- ets, the host can calculate its own link local address, so the host has an IPv6 address to use when doing its first overhead messages. For example, before a host sends an NDP RS (router solicitation) message, the host will have already calculated its link local address, which can be used as the source IPv6 address on the RS message.
Link local addresses come from the FE80::/10 range, meaning the first 10 bits must be 1111 1110 10. An easier range to remember is that all hex link local addresses begin FE8,FE9, FEA, or FEB. However, practically speaking, for link local addresses formed auto-matically by a host (rather than through static configuration), the address always starts FE80, because the automatic process sets bits 11-64 to binary 0s. Figure 16-10 shows theformat of the link local address format under the assumption that the host or router is de-riving its own link local address, therefore using 54 binary 0s after the FE80::/10 prefix.

Social networking has quickly become the new "in" thing to do in cyberspace. Whether you're using it to organize your social life or you're trying to expand your reach as an author, social networking can help you reach those goals because it allows you to reach an audience you might not otherwise reach. Plus, if you're using it to promote your business, the interpersonal nature of social networking sites gives you the chance to interact with a much more personal voice.

Another way to manage your time is to connect your networking profiles together. In this video, I'm going to show you how to save yourself a significant amount of time by connecting your Twitter account to your Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.

Connecting Twitter with Facebook

Have your login information for both Twitter and Facebook handy.
Login to Facebook.com.
Search in the top search bar for the Twitter Application.
Add the application to your account.
Then, allow and authorize access for Twitter and Facebook.
Enter your Twitter login information and select the option to update your Facebook status.
Choose your preferred settings and click "Allow."

Connecting Twitter with LinkedIn

Login to LinkedIn.com.
Click on the Twitter icon below the "Share an update" box.
A pop-up window will ask if you want to allow access to Twitter - allow and authorize.
If you're logged into Twitter already, it'll connect right away. If not, you'll have to enter your login information.
Choose your preferred settings.
Complete the process by selecting "Save Settings."
